The PACK Center at Colorado State University Pueblo is dedicated to the University's Vision and to providing accurate, responsive, and respectful service to students that fosters increased matriculation, retention, and student persistence to graduation.

The main function of the PACK Center is to provide a positive, holistic, equity-focused, and identity-informed experience to inform academic and personal success. The unit is positioned centrally to foster university-wide support networks and connections to campus and community for students. This includes advising, onboarding, policies, coursework, career exploration, and extracurricular activities. The center seeks to provide an asset-based approach with outreach and strategic interventions including early alert, academic watch, and improvement plans. It provides students with personal and regular contact so that they do well academically and socially and stay enrolled and succeed at CSU Pueblo.

Description of Job

This Academic Advisor position is an integral part of the PACK Center team, focusing on student success. Advisors serve a student caseload with advising and assistance navigating academic policies and processes while connecting students to various campus resources to optimize their CSU Pueblo experience. Core responsibilities include assisting students in creating and implementing academic success plans, facilitating guidance and programs on academic success topics, and building a supportive community. Each Academic Advisor will have the opportunity to specialize in an area of focus to support all students. This position is funded by the SCALED grant through December 31st, 2027.

SCALED is a multi-year, multimillion-dollar project funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Postsecondary Student Success Grant Program. The project coordinates student success efforts across CSU System campuses and is led by a team of campus leaders encompassing student success, advising, academic affairs, information technology, and institutional research.

Primary Duties

Case Management
Provides comprehensive student advising and manages a caseload of new, continuing, and transfer students attending the university; ensures a seamless transition to Faculty Advisors at the appropriate timing for the student's major.

Meets individually and in groups with students to develop structured student success plans to maximize the retention and persistence of students in their program. Offers guidance on specific academic skills such as time management, study strategies, note-taking, test preparation, and critical thinking. Develops programs, including workshops and group sessions, addressing relevant key academic success topics.

Utilizes enrollment management systems to track academic progress, communicate to provide proactive outreach for interventions or make referrals based upon issues and concerns reported by students, instructors, or staff. This includes regular usage of Slate, Banner, DARS, Starfish, etc.

Conducts individualized follow-up sessions to help students identify their strengths, interests, and abilities and explains how these relate to their major in the major selection and degree selection process.

Provides one-on-one support to help students navigate the registration process including selecting and enrolling in courses and ensuring course alignment with their degree. Reviews and interprets academic skills and assessment for appropriate course placement. (SAT, ACT, Accuplacer, etc).

Facilitates student connections with other departments on campus including Admissions, Career Center, Peer Mentors, Student Financial Services, Counseling Center, Tutoring centers, and all other student-serving departments.

Maintains student files, records, and data in accordance with federal, state, system, and college operating policies and protocols, and stays current on applicable laws, policies, and procedures (e.g. FERPA, Title V, and the Code of Federal Regulations).

Campus Engagement
Assists with staffing Enrollment Management initiatives including Enrollment Extravaganzas, Discover Days, New and Transfer Student Orientation, etc.

Actively Engages in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, promoting an environment where all students feel valued and supported.

Analyzes data to identify trends, successes, and areas for improvement in student support strategies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Experience in a position or activity where it was necessary to present information both individually and in group settings
  • Experience in a position or activity that required excellent communication skills, organizational skills, multitasking skills, ability to relate and mentor students, and attention to detail
  • Experience advising students at an institution of higher education including tracking and analyzing student progress.
  • Experience efficiently managing multiple tasks and projects.
  • Experience working in an environment with commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Colorado Advisors LEAD training
  • Strong Interest Inventory Certification
  • Experience working in a team environment and with a diverse population of students.
  • Experience organizing, implementing, and facilitating workshops, programs, or informational presentations.
  • Experience with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
