Job Summary Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the George Washington Carver
Experimental Station -Tuskegee University will soon have an excellent USDNFSIS Inspected Meat Laboratory and a Biosafety Level Il Meat Processing Laboratory. The Experiment Station also has beef, meat goats, and poultry teaching and research farms. Its collegial environment, embedded in a strong livestock industry, makes Tuskegee University an excellent base for faculty interested in pursuing a rewarding and impactful career in the meat animal sciences.
Essential Job Duties - Position responsibilities are 50% research, 35% teaching, 10% outreach, and 5% institutional service.
- It is expected that responsibilities in these areas will be closely supportive of each other.
- The successful candidate will develop an independent and externally funded research program focused on meat and poultry food safety while mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
- The research and teaching program will be expected to contribute to departmental thrusts to enhance the sustainability and efficiency of meat production systems and associated supply chains.
- The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching missions in the Animal and
- Veterinary Sciences program through student-centered teaching and academic advising.
- Outreach expectations will be focused on interactions with the meat and poultry industry as well as State and Federal regulatory bodies.
Preferred Qualifications - A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Meat Science, Animal Science, Food Science, or a related field by the time of hire.

Skills and Attributes - Capability for red meat and poultry research with an emphasis in microbial food safety as evidenced by a scholarly publication record.
- Demonstrated evidence of effective teaching and communication skills.
- Knowledge of and interaction with the red meat and poultry industry with the ability to address food safety issues (could include pre- or post-harvest, antimicrobial resistance, etc.)
- Knowledge of and interaction with regulatory agencies impacting red meat and poultry enterprises.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based, collaborative environment to solve problems.
- Demonstrated record or potential to establish a research program sustained by extramural funding.
- Experience in applying traditional and modern molecular approaches to red meat food quality research.
- Potential to contribute to the Department and University's efforts to promote Diversity, Equity
