Job Description

Job Summary:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) - CVICU brings exceptional clinical expertise to the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). This role is pivotal in establishing exemplary standards for nursing practice, educating staff, and consulting on complex cases. The CNS is instrumental in driving the CVICU's ambition to become a leading heart transplant center. With a focus on evidence-based care and training programs, the CNS significantly enhances patient outcomes and fosters the professional development of nursing staff.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Establish and uphold high care standards in the CVICU, confidently making recommendations to elevate clinical practice.
  2. Collaborate effectively with nursing staff to assess the needs of patients and families, crafting comprehensive care plans for complex, high-risk cases.
  3. Create and deliver impactful education programs for patients, families, and staff, enhancing knowledge and skills while overseeing successful implementation.
  4. Provide expert consultation to healthcare team members, addressing the unique needs of individuals or patient groups in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
  5. Lead dynamic quality assurance initiatives, expertly collecting and analyzing data on patient outcomes to identify key trends.
  6. Utilize KP Health Connect to assess care quality and manage clinical operations, ensuring thorough documentation and effective discharge planning.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Clinical Nurse Specialist Certificate (California) required at hire.
  2. Registered Nurse License (California) required at hire.
  3. Minimum 3 years of experience in a clinical specialty area, with specific expertise in CVICU.
  4. Proven track record in training staff and conducting nursing orientation in a clinical environment.
  5. Basic Life Support certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree.
  2. ACLS or PALS certification is an advantage.
  3. Previous experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist is preferred.
