General Notes

This is a grant-funded position and is renewable annually for up to four (4) years based on the availability of funding, work performance, and business need.

Purpose

The Senior Engineering Scientist position will focus on computational chemistry for molten salts as part of either the Nuclear and Radiation Engineering program of the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering or the Computational Nuclear Energy Group of the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences.

Responsibilities

* Create a research program designed to enable the use of digital twins to improve the operation of molten salt systems, including chemistry control, off-gas management, corrosion control, and filtering

* Perform chemistry/chemical engineering R&D to guide the licensing, design, and operation of a Molten Salt Research Reactor (MSRR)

* Diversifies the funding for molten salt chemistry R&D through successful research proposals as the Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI

* Recruits top talent, including graduate students, Postdoctoral Fellows, and Research Scientists, to join in computational nuclear energy research at the University of Texas at Austin

* Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

A doctoral degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, or related field. Five (5) years of leadership experience in computational molten salt chemistry/chemical engineering or radio-/actinide-chemistry. Excellent communication skills, leadership, and technical capability.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

A Ph.D. and leadership experience in molten salt chemistry/chemical engineering for nuclear applications. More than 10 years of experience in R&D for nuclear systems within the nuclear industry, national laboratory system, or academia.

Salary Range

$150,000 + depending on qualifications
