Description

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing high-quality urgent and emergent medical care to patients in a rural setting, to assess, stabilize, and treat patients with various acute medical conditions or traumatic injuries.

JOB DUTIES
  • Perform triage, initial patient assessment, and ongoing assessments
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Develop comprehensive treatment plans
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, support staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of patient care
  • Coordinate with receiving physicians, hospitals, hospital transfer centers, ambulance, and medevac agencies for patients requiring transfer to a higher level of care.
  • Provide timely and efficient medical care in emergency situations
  • Educate the patient and family about the patient's condition and recommended treatment plan
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the patient's EHR
  • Prescribe medications for acute conditions or use clinical discretion to provide bridge prescriptions
  • Ensure patient follow-up is coordinated with the patient's Primary Care Provider, Community Health Aides, and the Patient Care Coordinator/Case Manager.
  • Establish and maintain a network of collaborative relationships with private physicians, IHS, tribal, and non-tribal health service providers
  • Provide referrals to local providers and specialty clinics when services are not available within the CRNA clinics
  • In conjunction with medical, pharmacy, dental, and behavioral health staff assist with developing an appropriate formulary for the Medical Services Department
  • Work with Medical Services management and other Providers to write and publish a quarterly newsletter/blog focusing on improving patient education
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to Alaska Native culture and lifestyle, with demonstrated experience working effectively with the Alaska Native population

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program (Scope of Practice to include birth to death)
  • Licensed in Alaska as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
  • Current BLS certification
  • ACLS and PALS certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Maintain DEA number

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two years of experience as a Mid-Level Practitioner in a rural healthcare setting
  • Two years of experience as a Mid-Level Practitioner in emergency medicine or acute care setting

WORKING CONDITIONS

The work is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 25 lbs. The majority of work is performed in a clinical office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. CRNA is a smoke-free and tobacco-free campus. May require local travel between compacting villages of CRNA, which may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions. Works in an environment where the protection of client confidentiality is essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided when and where needed.

SPECIFICATIONS

Supervision Received:

Work will be monitored through meetings, reports, and regular communication with the immediate supervisor. General guidelines for operations are based on program requirements, conditions of grant award(s), and the general policies and procedures of CRNA. Administratively reports to Medical Services Director, clinically reports to Medical Director.

Supervision Exercised:

Position will not exercise supervision.

Contacts include and not limited to volunteers, organizational staff, clients, and outside agencies.

  • CRNA is a no tolerance workplace. All employees must pass an initial and random drug and alcohol screening to be eligible for and maintain employment.
  • CRNA has several positions that require a criminal background check for the safety of our clients. All employment offers in the "covered" classification are conditional until CRNA has received a Federal criminal background check verifying eligibility to work in these programs.
  • First Aid/CPR certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire for required positions.
  • As applicable by position and company policy, must meet standards for fitness for duty, immunizations, credentialing and privileging.
